Kathy King

Artistic Director

At just the age of nine months old, Kathy King began tapping her feet to the beat of music while sitting in her highchair. When she was three years old, she started her first dance classes at nursery school. As she grew, her passion for dancing grew as well. Kathy received formal ballet training with Mary Woods when she was only seven years old. The training continued through high school.

Kathy has since trained with teachers from the Pennsylvania Ballet and in New York at the Broadway Dance Center and Steps. Her jazz training has been with Jean Anne Principato, Luigi, Charles Kelley, and Jazz Dance Center. She studied tap at the University of the Arts with LaVaughn Robinson and Mike Lanning and ballroom dance at the Academy of Social Dance in Philadelphia. Kathy performed at the World’s Fair, the Philly Fest in Center City, Franchin’s Atlantic City nightclubs and at numerous charity functions throughout the Delaware Valley.

She is a former member of Jazzworks Dancers, voted #1 Jazz Dance Group in Philadelphia. Kathy has choreographed for the Junior Miss Pageant, high school productions, night club acts and talent shows. She taught Master Classes in the Performing Arts at Camden County Community College.

Kathy’s teaching career spans 30+ years and over 9,000 students. Some of her dancers have gone on to dance with the Pennsylvania Ballet, The Miss America Pageant and local theater productions. A dedicated professional, Kathy strives to help each student reach their fullest potential in a stimulating and enjoyable classroom environment. Her ultimate goal is to instill in her students a love for dance that will last a lifetime. Kathy’s Dancenter is celebrating its 34th season in 2020.
